Specialized assessment and interventionfor language and literacy development.
The Diagnostic Reading Centre of Calgary (DRCC) focuses on helping learners to develop greater proficiency in language and literacy (i.e., reading and writing) development. The specialized assessment and intervention at the DRCC examines a wide range of language and literacy subskills. The key is to establish each learner’s current learning profile in order to determine the precise language, reading, and writing skills that require additional, systematic instruction and guided practice.
LITERACY ASSESSMENT
The DRCC comprehensive assessment investigates each learner’s strengths and needs (i.e., gaps and/or misunderstandings) in language, reading, and writing development. The primary goal of the DRCC assessment is to determine exactly which aspects of language and literacy require further development.
The DRCCintervention focuses on establishing an individualized, remedial plan to address each learner’s current literacy challenges. The specialized one-on-one tutoring sessions incorporate explicit instruction, learning tasks, and educational materials designed by the literacy specialist for each learner’s specific language, reading, and/or writing goals.
Strong literacy skills provide the keys for opening doors to new opportunities. If you or someone you know has a history of reading, writing, and/or language difficulties, the DRCC can help.
